The Health Unit continues to be open and available to answer questions. However, due to COVID-19, our regular services have been temporarily modified. Here is a list of our current services:

COVID-19 Call Centre

Oral Health

Sexual Health

  • Note: Some services available by a public health nurse over the phone

Harm Reduction

  • Needle exchange
  • Naloxone kits

Vaccines

  • Telephone consults on immunizations, requests for immunization records, inquiries on vaccines, etc.
  • Vaccines by appointment for infants, aged 2 months through 18 months, and high risk individuals
  • If you are not sure if you are high risk, please call a Public Health Nurse at 1-800-563-2808 ext. 5252

Healthy Families

Available by phone to provide up-to-date information regarding:

  • Pregnancy; online prenatal education; preparation for parenting
  • Breastfeeding ( consults available over phone; limited breastfeeding clinic appointments are available)
  • Postpartum- newborn health, maternal physical health and mental well being;  caring for a new baby;  family adjustment
  • Parenting tips and techniques, especially during the pandemic
  • Recommendations and referrals to other community resources

Safe Food

  • Pre-opening inspections for seasonal mobile food premises
    Assessing farmers market applications
  • Following-up on food premise complaints

Safe Water

  • Accepting private single household water samples
  • Interpreting lab results of water samples
  • Education on well disinfection procedures

Rabies prevention

  • Following up on animal bites/scratches

Health Hazard

  • Hazardous Algae Blooms, referral, interpretation of risk
